W. Lee Hunt

Founder - Business Manager

  • E-Mail: lee.hunt@huntmysteries.com

  • Lee is a career newspaperman. In 1974 he received a bachelor's degree in journalism (with a minor in sociology) from Brigham Young University. Upon graduation, he was hired at the Deseret News (now Deseret Morning News) as an obituary writer but within a few months moved to the copy desk as a copy editor. By 1985, he had become the paper's copy editing chief.

A story in the Deseret News about a comedy murder mystery outing in another state caught Lee's interest, which led him to write his first comedy murder mystery script in 1987. This script and other holiday-oriented scripts were written and performed at dinner parties with his family and friends. He eventually hired actors and staged his first public show in April of 1991 and has been doing shows non-stop since.

Lee wrote most of the scripts early on, and Hunt Mysteries now has more than 40 scripts to pick from. The format of the performances has changed over time, as Hunt Mysteries has become more focused on audience participation and the musical entertainment side of the comedy murder mysteries. We've also grown quite a bit, averaging more than one hundred performances a year for the past several years.

Lee retired from Deseret Morning News in 2008 and about the same time sold Hunt Mysteries to his son, Jared. Lee now works in his home office as business manager of Hunt Mysteries. For leisure, he enjoys playing with his grandchildren, reading, traveling or watching local sports -- whether it be BYU football, basketball or the Utah Jazz.

Nancy Hunt

Assistant Producer & Show Manager

  • Nancy has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1976. She recently retired from working in her own salon. She now focuses on making us look good! Her work is superb, she has a keen eye for detail. In the theater business we often hear the phrase "The show must go on!" -- For us, it is typically Nancy who makes certain that the details of the show are accomplished. Up until recently moving from West Jordan, Nancy focused her free time on her backyard paradise -- she's a phenomenal gardener. Now she has a lovely flowering patio!

Mary Brassard

Assistant Executive Producer

  • E-Mail: mary.brassard@huntmysteries.com

  • Mary was 3 when she attended her first theatre audition. She spent years acting on stages throughout the Salt Lake Valley. In 2006, Mary found Hunt Mysteries and performed in her first murder mystery. Mary soon became a permanent fixture – the format and audience participation is a natural fit. She loves working close with and building a relationship with the audience members. In 2007, she began directing and writing for Hunt Mysteries and in early 2009, Mary joined Hunt Mysteries as a producer. She is very fond of the Hunt family and looks forward to many years with Hunt Mysteries. Mary has many goals for Hunt Mysteries and believes all of them will come to fruition with the great team that Hunt Mysteries has put together.

Mary is married to her sweetheart, Dan, who is very supportive of her aspirations and goals with Hunt Mysteries. In fact, he has even joined our show tech team and has helped out with the lighting in many shows productions. Mary hasn’t had any luck getting him in front of the crowd – yet. Mary and her husband have two very mischievous dogs and live in the Salt Lake area. Dan happily and successfully works for Wells Fargo Bank.
